How can periodontal disease be treated?
The treatment of periodontal disease is very individual and will be adjusted according to your personal situation. Generally, periodontal disease is treated using two methods, which we would like to introduce here:
First of all a professional tooth cleaning is performed and instructions about oral hygiene are presented. This procedure serves as the basis for the successful start of the periodontal treatment.
With a simple form of periodontal treatment (flap procedure, curettage) we are able to stop the inflammation at the base of the tooth, but we cannot repair the damage that has already occurred. The tooth fixture apparatus remains damaged.
Modern treatment methods using membrane techniques (guided bone regeneration = GBR) enable us to nearly completely correct the damaged gums and bone tissue, thereby virtually reconstructing your tooth fixture apparatus. Special materials for periodontal treatment prevent the gums from receding further and support natural bone growth. The defect is subsequently repaired.
