Due to the worldwide demographic development, the extent of medical care required will grow enormously over the next decades. The general dentist often may not be able to meet all requirements necessary to treat senior citizens adequately. Aspects of pharmacology, internal medicine and dentistry have to be taken into consideration simultaneously. Staff education, structure and organization of the general dental office are mostly not sufficient to cover the needs of this age group.
In our clinic we maintain the balance between the requirements of future-oriented and healthy senior patients on the one hand side and the needs of geriatric treatment on the other hand side. According to the latest investigations, it is remarkable that only 25% of our senior citizens are able to properly evaluate their need of treatment. Particularly the incidence of cardiovascular complications, bacterial endocarditic and hypertone crisis are predominant problems, which may occur during dental treatment.

We are glad to welcome you in our new private dental clinic „At the Watertower“ (ZKW) in Mannheim.
This is the first private dental clinic with hospital status for over-night patients in the Rhine-Neckar-Region and one of the biggest in South Germany.
The clinic includes a dental office for complete outpatient care, a surgical department and five comfortable apartments for patients staying one or more nights.
Due to its interdisciplinary medical and dental approach, the clinic is especially designed for senior citizens. The clinic also fulfils all quality requirements of a modern dental hospital and provides sophisticated dental care.
The Dental Clinic At the Water Tower, the office and the Institute for Oral Surgery have been certified according to ISO 9001 by the German Technical Inspectorate TÜV, which ensures that the methods and treatments are officially controlled and optimally efficient.
Our specialisation in geriatric dentistry is based on an effective age – related prophylaxis concept working closely together with your medical care providers and family doctor. Regular professional oral hygiene procedures for your remaining dentition are performed as well as professional cleaning of your prosthesis. During your check-up sessions we particularly check changes of your medical status and anamnesis since in the Generation 60 + acute changes of your health status and your functional capacity may occur more rapidly than in younger age groups.
Prior to treatment we take a lot of time to thoroughly check your personal dental needs and the possible risks associated with it. We will check your oral situation, discuss your possible treatment options and design your individual treatment concept.
Naturally our clinic covers the whole spectrum of modern high-tech dentistry. We are able to perform a complete service from the newest diagnostic computers to our own chair-side master lab technician.
Depending on the treatment plan and your personal needs we also perform treatment in intravenous sedation, deep sleep or general anaesthesia. Afterwards you are welcome to spend a few days recovering in one of our comfortable guest apartments under medical and dental surveillance. You will benefit from this option particularly if you face a longer and more extended treatment, if you live alone or if you would be afraid of the treatment. Treatments in the evening or on weekends are also possible on request.
